Dear Friends and Prayer Warriors:
Imagine yourself entering a large lecture hall filled with about 300
military cadets. Quiet? No! Guitars, keyboard, drums and all their
voices raised in praising God! It was a blessing just to be there
and to share with them in this time. It was also a fitting end to
the day spent here at West Point visiting with many of the Christians
on the faculty and learning what God is doing here. How blessed our
nation is to have young people like these studying His Word and
following His guidance as they prepare to become our Military Leaders.
Each visit we make helps us understand more fully the place the Lord
has for each of us in His mission field, reaching the Military of the
world for Him from within the forces. Many questions have been
raised by the delegates and pages of notes written to help them when
they return home and share what they have learned. We are sure that
prayer, thoughts and plans are already moving ahead with all of the
delegates and that the Lord is going to do great things in all of the
nations represented.
Satan is still alive and well and trying to discourage all of
us. Pray for health for the team as some "bug" has been going around
here and members of our host families have been down with
it. Sniffles and coughs are becoming heard and being tired is part
of each day. Today we travel from here back to Ft. Belvoir in
northern Virginia. Keep our drivers in prayer as they traverse the
many different roads on the trip. We look forward to rejoining all
of the groups tomorrow and learning how the Lord has blessed each of them.
Here is information we received last night from group 2.
I find that on this trip I have absolutely zero time to get away, to
compose any sort of report. Tonight when I returned from our OCF
evening at home of Bob Drews (which went extremely well), I tried to
do something with CompuServe, but it won't let me sign on.
Best I can do is a short paragraph: Theme for today was "spirit of
unity." This morning we had an excellent tour of the USS Eisenhower,
a Nemitz class aircraft carrier. Chaplain John Van Dyke arranged for
us to board the carrier, to visit the flight and hanger decks, visit
the bridge and deck control station, as well as meet in their chapel
and learn what chaplains do. Chaplain Doyle, who was preparing for
11 AM Mass, confirmed how the chaplains all work together to meet the
spiritual needs of all sailors while not compromising their own
church's teachings. From here we went to First Baptist Church of
Norfolk for the monthly luncheon of the Hampton Roads United Military
Ministries (HRUMM) , during which time we learned how the various
ministries work and pray together. Members of our group gave
testimonies and shared how helpful Interaction has been for
them. After an afternoon of sightseeing, we returned to Bob Drews'
home for an OCF pot luck supper and testimonies from our group, from
their group, and from the leaders, thereby underscoring today's
examples of unity.
Wednesday, 31 October, we will be up early in order to attend a 6 AM
Bible Study at Langley AFB before continuing on to Quantico for the
next two days.
In Christ, Dick and LInda
